Furniture, Decor and Lighting Trends from Las Vegas Market 2023

In addition to attending the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (check out my post on the highlights) we also spent time at the Las Vegas World Market Center to take in all things furniture, decor and lighting related. In addition to adding some great new suppliers to our list, we tested out so many chairs and sofas for our clients. Most of the lighting I source is from catalogues and not always available to view locally in the showrooms so getting to peruse the collections of several of my go-to lines was so helpful too!

As always, trends are just that. I’m always going to advocate for adding pieces to your home that you love, regardless of if they are on trend or not. But it’s important to have some insight into what’s out there and where design is heading!

Furniture Trends

Neutrals

I was actually a bit surprised to still see mainly neutral options for furniture with the main colours sticking to nature tones like blues and greens. But this also makes sense given the rise of biophilic design and making these indirect connections to what we see in nature. In fact most of the visual trends we saw all make those ties to nature, including some more direct ones as you’ll see later.

Textured Fabrics

Bouclé is still going strong along with other textured fabrics. Performance velvets continued to be found and are one of my go-to options for busy homes with kids and pets. I’d personally stick to smaller items in the larger bouclé but think the velvets and more subtle textured fabrics will be here for a while and are great for larger investment pieces.

Mixed Materials & Textural Details

We saw a lot of furniture pieces combining fabrics, wood, metals, leathers, along with other materials and details. It adds extra visual layers which is particularly pleasing in subtle colour schemes. And the little extra details on so many of the pieces made them feel special.

Organic Shapes and Curved Lines

Curves were everywhere! While there were still options for more squared off pieces, there was a definite use of softer lines throughout the furniture options. Elements of nature and organic shapes were also at play which gives off a really grounding feeling and creates great visual interest.

Swivel & Casters

Swivel chairs for living and dining areas were everywhere. I really love the versatility that a swivel brings to a space and, let’s be honest, they are fun to be in too. A lot of dining chairs were fitted with casters as well, making it easy to get in and out.

Art & Decor Trends

Textures, 3D Elements & Mixed Materials

Setting more standard artwork aside, there was a definite trend towards textural elements and mixed materials. We saw a lot of use of 3D elements in the artwork which adds a bit of extra life to something that is traditionally more flat. I also loved the use of the coloured acrylic over the canvases and the use of items that wouldn’t normally be considered art made into art.

The textural elements continued into the area rugs as well, with several options that focus more on texture than on pattern.

Neutrals, Sculptures and Natural Elements

I was also happy to see more sculptures on display as I really love incorporating them into homes to add to the art and decor elements. And not just traditional sculptures but also utilizing other items to create sculptural pieces. Again, neutrals and natural elements were found everywhere!

Organic Shapes

This theme continues into the art and decor elements, particularly with sculptures and objects. Lots of fluid curves, utilizing unique or imperfect shapes or items, and natural materials.

Lighting Trends

Botanical References

I was really enjoying the overt botanical shapes found in the light fixtures. They add a bit of whimsy - some in a more understated way which are probably my favourites. These references were everywhere and you’ll notice them continuing in some of the other trend elements later on.

Natural Materials & Textures

We saw lots of light fixtures that incorporated marble, onyx and even some travertine. While it’s more expected in table lamps, it was great to see these materials used in ceiling and wall mount fixtures too. There was also some amazing fixtures utilizing wood, wicker and other similar materials which can add a lot of warmth to a space.

White Fixtures

All white fixtures were another element that we saw throughout all of the lighting manufactuers that we visited. I like the opaque and matte look it creates and is a nice change from the matte black we’ve been seeing so much of.

Organic Shapes

So I’m sure by now you’ve realized that several of these trends carry across the furniture, decor and lighting realms. The soft curves and organic elements continued into lighting, and I’m totally here for it! They really do give a sense of calming energy.

And that’s my recap of the furniture, lighting and decor trends that I saw while at the Las Vegas Market earlier this year. I’d love to know which trends are speaking to you and which you won’t be getting on board with. Let me know in the comments below.
