Our Top 3 Product Lines from Hunter Douglas

As part of our 10 year anniversary, we’ve been pulling fun statistics from our work over the years. One of those includes how many windows we’ve put Hunter Douglas window coverings on here in Edmonton (oh and also in St. Albert, Beaumont, Sherwood Park, Calgary, Westlock, Comox, Vancouver and even Mississauga) and also what our top 3 product lines are that we’ve sold over the past 7 years of being an Hunter Douglas Dealer. So I thought I would share what those 3 products are and why they get specified the most. Oh, and in case you were wondering, it’s over 300 windows that we’ve put window coverings on… with that number increasing steadily!

And in case you’re wondering why we choose to only carry Hunter Douglas products at Kierstin Smyth Design… it’s because we haven’t found another product line that can compete when it comes to the variety and beauty of the design options, quality of the fabrics, operating systems and hardware, as well as the warranty and support they provide.

We have previously worked with other products and companies but found that our client’s still chose the Hunter Douglas option even if the price point was a bit higher because the design options were better suited to their space and the quality was superior too. We’ve also had challenges with warranty issues with other brands where in one case the original brand was bought out and the new owner wouldn’t honour the warranty or where we’ve found the overall service level for warranty issues to be poor.

So for now, to ensure our clients are getting the best product from a reputable, long standing supplier, our focus is Hunter Douglas.

Silhouette® Sheer Shades

Okay so admittedly, my own home’s windows definitely helped push this one to the top, but it’s still our by far leader. And yes, it’s likely because I love this product line so much that I end up “selling it” more easily. But even without all of that, these stunning shades have so much to offer.

When it comes to light control, they have it all. For the standard Silhouette® line, you have the ability for privacy when the light filtering veins are closed and a sheer view out (with UV protection) when the veins are open. When adding on the Duolite® room darkening shade, the options increase even more.

With the Halo™ feature, you can also tilt the veins up as well as down, giving you even more privacy control while still allowing beautiful filtered light to enter your home.

But more than anything else, the way the sunlight looks when it passes through the sheer veins and into your space is just so lovely, almost ethereal!

In Silhouettes, we’ve sold the most in the Bon Jour White Brilliance fabric.

But with the new Halo feature, we’re seeing a shift to its Elan Daisy White fabric.

Duette® Cellular Shades

Living in Canada with our cold winters and hot summers, energy efficiency becomes extra important. The Duette® shades, with their double cell construction, can significantly reduce heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer through our windows.

One of the areas where the Duette® shines in comparison to other options from other brands is the ability to pair fabrics across room darkening and light filtering options (and even pair with other product lines). This makes it easy to ensure a consistent look throughout your home. I also love the Duolite® feature that acts like a top down bottom up (which you can’t get anymore in Canada), but instead of an open top, you have a beautiful sheer fabric that provides UV protection but still allows for the view out.

Another awesome option with the Duette® line is the LightLock™ feature that utilizes side channels for a true blackout blind. Perfect in bedrooms for shift workers or others who love complete darkness and in media rooms too.

Our most sold Duette fabric line is the Architella Elan in Daisy White.

Which, if you’re paying attention, you’ll know allows you to match with the Silhouette Halo fabric.

Designer Roller Shades

Simple, clean and cost effective, we specify Designer Roller Shades a lot both on their own and in conjunction with our other top sellers, Silhouette® and Duette®. Because of their simplicity, we can easily use them on the "lesser” windows of a home while utilizing the more expensive options on the prominant windows. Not sure what I mean, well a typical situation has us using the Silhouette® line on the windows of the common areas of the home that our clients spend the most time in, like living rooms and kitchens. But then we’ll use the Roller Shades in the private areas like bedrooms, bathrooms, basements, etc. to help keep the overall price of the window coverings lower.

But of course, we also just use them all on their own. They are a timeless, sleek look with options for varying levels of light filtering from sheer to room darkening. As well, you can have them made with just the fabric roll showing at the headrail, or with a cassette or even a valence, allowing even more customization for your look.

Our go-to fabric in the Designer Roller Shades line is called Urban Loft.

It has options for both a light filtering fabric (Organic Cotton - shown) and Room Darkening fabric (It’s White) meaning you can easily match between rooms.
